Croissant French Toast Bake
Ingredients: Serves 8-10
For the Bake:
- 10 large croissants, preferably a day old, torn into large pieces
- 4 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups whole milk
- ½ cup heavy cream
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for greasing)
For the Maple Drizzle:
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ tsp cinnamon
Optional Toppings:
- Powdered sugar
- Fresh berries
- Whipped cream
Instructions
1. Prep the croissants – Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly butter a 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread croissant pieces evenly in the dish.
2. Make the custard – In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
3. Soak and assemble – Pour custard over the croissants. Let sit for 10 minutes, gently pressing the croissants so they soak up the liquid.
4. Bake – Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and slightly puffed. The center should be set but soft.
5. Make the maple drizzle – While the bake is in the oven, heat maple syrup, butter, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over low heat until warm and smooth.
6. Serve – Drizzle warm maple syrup over the croissant bake. Dust with powdered sugar and add toppings if desired. Serve warm.
